Places to go to in Beijing!!
Beijing is the capital of China, a city filled with bustling people and strong Chinese culture. Beijing has a long history and many new developments in the city.
The Great Wall of China
You can get an bus tour to the Great Wall of China from Beijing to one of the stops of the wall, Badging, Mutianyu, Juyonguan, Jinshanling and Simatai. The bus ride from Beijing to the stops takes 1-2 hours. The Great Wall of China was used for protecting the empires from invasions of other groups and tribes. The wall is made of stone, wood, bricks and earth. It was cool to check out the structure of the wall and the scenery. Some parts of the Great Wall is very steep, so be careful walking along it.
Another place to look at is the Temple of Heaven, in the Chongwen District. Emperors would go to the temple to pray and worship to the heavens. The Temple of Heaven is one of China's most ancient buildings. There is a semi-circle wall around the Temple of Heaven symbolising the shape of heaven. There are many building sections within the temple area. The temple has some interesting parts and buildings such as the Circular Mound Altar, Imperial Vault of Heaven, Danbi bridge, Altar of Prayer of Good Harvests and the Palace of Abstinence.
Beijing National Stadium (Bird's Nest)
In 2008, Beijing was the host nation for the Olympic Games. They built an iconic steel structured stadium in Beijing city shaped in a bird's nest. The stadium is built for track and field events as well as football. The large architecturally designed stadium is an interesting site for tourists to visit.
Beijing National Aquatics Center (Water Cube)
Beijing also built the National Aquatics Centre in Beijing City. The iconic aquatics centre was also architecturally designed into a water cube. At night, the water cube lights up and it looks good to take photos. The aquatics centre was for the swimming, water polo, diving competitions but it has now been changed to a water theme park.
Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City
The Forbidden City was an imperial palace for emperors to live and work. It has a strong history in Chinese culture and it is one of China's most iconic constructions. Around the Forbidden City is a wall and at the front is Tiananmen Square (the Gate of Heavenly Peace). There is an outer court and inner court. The outer court has 3 buildings, Hall of Supreme Harmony, Hall of Central Harmony and the Hall of Preserving Harmony. In the outer court, the emperor would meet for events with the army, scholars and people working for the palace. The inner court has 3 buildings of the Palace of Heavenly Peace, Palace of Union and Peace and the Palace of Terrestrial Tranquility. The inner court, the emperor would live and deal with everyday work.
