Kangaroo Island

Are you interested travelling outdoors and need a break from the city?
Check out Kangaroo Island.

Kangaroo Island is the third largest island in Australia. From Adelaide, you can hire a car or join a bus tour to Kangaroo Island. You can drive to the Cape Jervis, SeaLink wharf and drive onto the ferry (SeaLink) that will take you to Kangaroo Island.

I stayed at Kangaroo Island for 3 days and 2 nights. Kangaroo Island has many nature reserves where you can go sightseeing and look native animals. I went on a quad biking tour to explore the bushland and the animals. There were families that joined us on the tour. The quad bike guides will teach you how to use the quad bikes. It is a fun, easy and memorable way to explore the grasslands and bush trails. During the ride on the quad bikes, I saw goannas, koalas, kangaroos and wallabies.

There are small country cafes and restaurants along the drive to the different attractions. We stayed overnight in the small town of Kingscote. At Kingscote Wharf, at 5pm, we got to feed pelicans with fish. It was fun to feed the pelicans.

The next day, we drove to a beach at Seal Bay Conservation Park to see seals and sea lions lying, playing around in the sand and swimming to the shore. There are boardwalk tours to learn about the beach and the seals and sea lions. I saw many penguin burrows along particular areas of the beach.

There are many quiet beaches and sightseeing places of natural wonders around Kangaroo Island. One of the prettiest places for nature photography was at the Remarkable Rocks in Flinders Chase National Park. The boulders had been eroded by rain, wind and waves turning them into unusual shapes. The natural sculpture beside the ocean makes the sightseeing scenery beautiful.

Another great place to check out is Admirals Arch. Admiral Arch is also located in Flinders Chase National Park. It is another unusual natural landmark where the wind and waves have eroded the rock into a bridge shape. We spotted seals and seal lions lying around the rock pools and ledges around Admirals Arch.

You can check out on Kangaroo Island are local events from art exhibitions, gourmet dining, vineyards and wine taste testings. Other activities you can try are fishing, night safaris, bushwalking, diving, whale and dolphin watching, going to different farms (honey, fruit) and sandboarding.
