Express Trip to Hong Kong
Hong Kong. When people think of Hong Kong three things often come to mind; chaos, thick smog and skyscrapers. Aside from these ideas about this chaotic, busy and fast moving city, there is much to be explored within this small city. It is a city filled with rich cultural history, amazing scenic views, shopping, and LOTS of good food!
This three day itinerary will hopefully help you give a better understanding of the endless things you can do in this city. Three days is definitely not enough, once you get a glimpse into this vibrant city, you'll be booking your next trip as soon as you leave!
Day 1
The Hong Kong Museum of History
To be able to understand and appreciate this city, you must first understand its history. The museum is family friendly and provides an interactive display of Hong Kong's compound past. Other exhibitions that are on offer at the museum include archaeology, social history, ethnography and the natural history of the region.
There is lots to see and learn in this museum, so allow lots of time for your visit. Recommend around 2-4 hours.
Admission is free every Wednesday.
Ladies Markets in Mong Kok
Mong Kok translates to busy corner and this place definitely lives up to its name. This is the home of Hong Kong's largest markets selling inexpensive souvenirs, clothing and accessories. The atmosphere with crowds and sellers is like nothing you will experience anywhere else.
Tsim Sha Tsui Harbour Front
After discovering more about Hong Kong at the museum of history, take a stroll along the waterfront and take in the beautiful views of Hong Kong's iconic skyline. Be sure to visit the avenue of stars where celebrities such as Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee have set foot and take a photo with their handprints that are embedded in the ground.
This is Hong Kong's Hollywood "walk of fame".
There are lots of shops and restaurants along the waterfront, so this is a great place to get a bite to eat while enjoying the beautiful views.
Take the Star Ferry
Finish the day with a ferry ride along the harbour. The ferry travels from Kowloon island to Hong Kong island and is an inexpensive way to travel between the two islands while enjoying the beautiful skyline up close.
Cost: HKD $2.20 - I highly recommend it!
Day 2
The Peak
The peak is the highest point on Hong Kong island. The panoramic views of Hong Kong and the surrounding islands attracts thousands of tourists each year. For the more adventurous travellers, to get there you can either hike up the mountain to reach the spectacular views or for those traveling with children or want to take it easy can take the peak tram up where you can experience beautiful 180 degree views of the entire city. The view is spectacular.
Times Square
If you love to shop then Times Square Hong Kong is your must go destination. Filled with a range of shops from high end brands like Louis Vuitton to international brands such as H&M and Abercrombie and Fitch. Not only is Times Square well known for shopping but it is also known for the great restaurants and cafes that is spread throughout the area of causeway bay.
Experience night life at Lan Kwai Fong
Lan Kwai Fong is a must go for those who want to experience true Hong Kong nightlife. It is filled with bars and clubs located in the heart of Hong Kong island, central district. This is a place to experience the "rowdier" side of Hong Kong and is a hit spot for those who like to party or just want to have a taste of what the party life is all about in Hong Kong.
Day 3
Disneyland and/or Ocean park
For those traveling with children or those who want to want to bring out their inner child, Disneyland or Ocean park is the place to go! Spend the day with Mickey Mouse and friends or go say hello to the sea creatures (and not to mention, pandas too!) at ocean park. There is something for everyone!
